While Liz is thinking all this, Connie is yammering about Phil.

One moment, the foobs were in a teal-and-lavender monstrosity of a wedding, and the next they were propelled back into the past. But it was a different version of the past. What happened?

The thing I liked (besides "Vat O' Spuds, of course) was Liz's confusion about her attempted wordplay. She knows that they can't understand her and she seems to be aware of how annoying it is; figuring out that she's be around lousy wordplay so long she can't help herself will take until she actually talks.
And what makes it all the worse is that Lizzie feels compelled to make wordplay in her head. She knows that no one can "hear" what she's thinking, and yet, there's the Patterson wordplay compulsion. It's torture! :)
"Look closer" ::snerk::
I have gotten the impression from time-to-time that Lynn Johnston doesn't have any problem with the idea that Pattersons like marijuana. After all, Josef Weeder was nicknamed Weed. On the other hand, she has never shown (to my knowledge) any of the characters using drugs of any sort (aside from Grandpa Jim and his prescriptions). When the Pattersons kids strayed to the bad side, it was with alcohol.
Heh, I knew that if anyone caught the "look closer," it was going to be you, howtheduck. In fact, I was thinking of it as a lil gift to you. :)
As I said earlier, it took me a couple of tries to guess what Elly's "special ingredient" was. I will restate my opinion that it explains a lot.
It really would explain a lot. LJ ought to retcon that in. :)
I hate to be pedantic (no I don't) but I think the phrase is supposed to be "hook him like a fish". Liz's version would have to be "hook him as (if she were) a fisherman." Not even LJ would pull something like that. I hope.
On the other hand, we already know Liz is lousy at wordplay, so...
Yeah, it's satire, right?

Loooooooove "Vat O' Spuds"!!
Jana C.H., correct on all counts (grammatical, satirical and wordplay). :)
Loooooooove "Vat O' Spuds"!!
Thanks, McBangle--it seemed to belong there. :)
Can I just say that it would make perfect sense for Liz to start doing wordplay solely to keep her own sanity while stuck in this version of hell? She's gotta do something other than just focus on all she can't do or change.
Excellent point, Zach. It's kind of like being in a hostage situation, only Liz is being held hostage in a time warp. :)
