The conversation before the gobsmack

I'd heard that today's official foob would feature Mike, Phil, and an Elly gobsmack.  I wanted to make a reference to that, but not seeing the strip, I had no way to know what Mike and Phil would be wearing--hence the wardrobe change Phil suggests in the last panel.

Notice that I made Francoise shorter than Robin, as she's supposed be, considering she is four months younger than he is.

The strip that explains about sending objects across time through the crawlspace was on July 3, 2009.

Recycled art for a recycled story arc

So, Lynn appears to be doing another iteration of the Phil-Connie storyline that she did prematurely during Christmas 2008/New Year's 2009 and seemed to wrap up back in February.  Then she probably realized she has to bring them together again if she wants to reprint the "Connie chases after Phil by going to Montreal" arc.  So in honor of that SNAFUiness is a repeat of the January 2, 2009 art, but with shiny new dialogue.

When Mike gets his turn

I know that's a pretty wonky-looking Santa and elves. Sometimes it goes that way....

Another thing Canon Connie will never say

...Not that I can even tell you what it would mean to beat the Ontario off of someone, but I enjoyed the sound of it.

Connie and Anne discuss Elly again

Ugh. So my mobo died and I had to replace my computer. I'm now running a shiny new laptop w/Windows 7, but now I've got Gimp instead of PaintShop Pro, so I've got some getting used to.... that's why the text size is a lil off....

Edit: Oops... I only just realized I used the wrong font for this. That's something I can't blame on Gimp--I do have the foob font installed.

How Elly doesn't make a new friend

I know Elly wasn't exactly leaving things to fate when she reconstructed Mike's Stone[d] Season and tried to have it published as her own work--let alone causing the whole time warp. But it's not out-of-character for her to be self-contradictory.

Most of her classmates are silhouettes

::sigh:: Okay, so LJ didn't run the strip I expected to see on Saturday, October 24. Here is the strip I had in mind.

The reappearance of reappearance

It was baffling enough when LJ chose to do the new-run redraw that appeared on October 7--then she confounded that baffledom today by repeating the strip upon which she based that redraw. Bwuh?

The Island of Miss Moreau

Since Lynn doesn't seem to be even trying to pretend her new-ruin/old-ruin continuity is in "the modern day," I used a WKRP-era pic of Loni Anderson as my reference photo for Miss Moreau.

D'oh! These things don't post themselves....

Oops. After creating this yesterday, I kind of missed that whole "posting it" step. In my defense, I'd run my first half marathon and was a bit sore!

Janice survives to tell the tale

Mind you, this does not mean they're in our time. It's just pure coincidence that the reading in question and book in question sound so similar to a reading and book we've heard about recently. And the author and illustrator aren't the same author and illustrator, but they have obvious similarities. :)

Mr. Shadbolt

Gambling that this will be the day the "It's OK, Mr. Shadbolt... She's my wife" strip appears.

A lead-in for tomorrow

Since I already prematurely snarked on the "That was when I still enjoyed working" strip this past Friday, I decided to create a lead-in for the strip I expect to see reprinted tomorrow. (dreadedcandiru2, I know you read the guy in that strip as Dr. Ted, but I decided he looked different enough to be a whole other jerkish colleague of John's.)

Shania-Ann is there because Lynn decided to update her original reference to a hygienist who resembles Cheryl Ladd to one who looks like Shania Twain. Then we had some strips where we see a hygienist who resembles April Patterson, which of course led to my Foobars in which April was able to travel to Elly's warp-time for a little while--here I have John explaining that she's a hygienist filling in for Shania-Ann Achronism.

I actually looked at a bunch of Shania Twain pictures and tried to draw Shania-Ann to look as Twain might if she were a foob character. I'm not sure how succesful I was, but I had fun drawing her hair. At first, I was looking for reference pics that weren't overly posey, but for the final frame, I decided to go for a shot that was as posey as it gets... :)

And they're dealing with grade one as well!

One of my favorite moments in Peggy Sue Got Married happened soon after Peggy Sue found herself a teenager in the 1950s once again. Her mother asked her about what she'd argued with Charlie about. The mom thought she was referring to her teenage daughter's teenage boyfriend, but in Peggy Sue's mind, he was her ex-husband decades later. So she responded with something like "Mortgage payments." :)
