Catching up with Connie and Lawrence

Okay, so here is a conversation with my son, which took place the afternoon of Free Comic Book Day (this past Saturday), shortly  after we got our free comics:

Son:  What will you call your "FOOBAR" comic book?

Me:  I don't know--I hadn't though of making a "FOOBAR" comic book.  If I make one, what do you think I should call it?

Son:  I don't know, either.  Oh!  Elly Patterson Free-For-All!

That's a fairly healthy attitude; it seems that a lot of people will join him in wanting to do just that.

Wow, allow me a bit of shallowness, but both of them look pretty damn good all grown up! You wouldn't think that Connie would end up looking all that great, but the version here looks... realistic? Like, not the nasty carictature thing she had going on back in the past (Elly's past?).

And it's nice to see her finally apologizing, even though I agree with DC2 that he's got a nice, healthy attitude about putting the whole mess behind him. Hooray for happy endings! :)

I am pretty interested in finding out more about the others, though... particularly Deanna. And Meredith, Robin and Francoise... how are they handling what they remember of that time spent without their parents? But for now, I'm just happy to see that Lawrence is happy, and that he's getting along much better with his mother than they used to.

Yup--after having the past forced upon them, I think lots of people will be anxious to shake it loose for good.

Thanks. :)

Don't worry--I'm working my way through other characters. I've scripted out an entire month's worth of strips and will probably do one or two more beyond what I've scripted.

You have managed to show in FOOBAR something which never occurred in the comic strip -- adult Connie and adult Lawrence having a conversation. Isn't it nice not to be boxed-in mentally to only allow certain characters to talk to certain characters?

Yes! I enjoyed putting them together in the strip because this is something we should have been seeing. Even at an event like Liz's wedding--where both characters were present--we saw NO interaction between them.

Liz's wedding. Michael's wedding. Numerous other small occasions. Supposedly Connie accepted Lawrence after he came out, but there are precious few strips to prove it. As near as I can tell, this is the last strip with Connie and Lawrence both in it.

Technically, Connie and Lawrence are both in this strip: See panel 2 for Connie and panel 8 for Lawrence. But they might as well be strangers.

I tried to only count the strip where both characters appeared in the same panel or seemed to notice each other. As you point out, they seem to be strangers. Connie acts more like Elly's girlfriend than Lawrence's mom.

Oh, okay--I thought you meant if they were in the same strip at all.

Connie acts more like Elly's girlfriend than Lawrence's mom.

Wonder if Lawrence will be more supportive of Connie's coming out than the vice versa.
