Sucks to be Lawrence

It does suck to be him; here he is thinking about Susan Smith and the only one who shares his pain is the dog.

Btw: Nice use of pluggage.

"Thinking about Deanna" "Farley Follows His Schnozz" You are firing on all cylinders this time. You even managed to draw Farley where it doesn't look like Mike is sitting on top of him.

Connie is really creeping me out; she strikes me as the kind of woman who would drown Lawrence in the bathtub if she ever gets the notion that the reason Phil doesn't want her is because he doesn't want to be burdened with a family.

DC2 and jjamele, I definitely get the same vibe from Connie that you're both alluding to, via Susan Smith and bathtub drowning. I wonder if LJ is at all aware that she's creating this impression.

Btw: Nice use of pluggage.

Thanks, DC2. :)

Heh--thanks. The "thinking about Deanna" part I planned in advance, and the book was a spur-of-the-moment inspiration, when I realized there'd be a shelf area to fill. :)

Heh. I figured this was what Lynn was going for, but didn't quite achieve. I also tried to make Michael's right foot less mutated than it appeared in yesterday's strip.

Nitpick: Susan Smith drove her children off a bridge so she could be with a guy. The woman who drowned her kids in the bathtub did it during a psychotic break caused by untreated postpartum depression, and last I read she still believed her children were alive.

I have immense sorrow and sympathy for the latter woman. Not for Susan Smith.

clio-1, you are absolutely right. I probably should not have written that combined reply, as I didn't mean to lump together Susan Smith and Andrea Yates.

There's also Diane Downs who shot her children (killing one, seriously injuring the other two) in an attempt to win over a man she was in love with. If you like true crime stuff, I highly recommend Ann Rule's Small Sacrifices, which is about Downs--a heartbreaking book all around.

Yes--I second the recommendation for Small Sacrifices, which I read years ago (in addition to the made-for-TV movie starring Farrah Fawcett as Diane Downs and Ryan O'Neil as her love interest).

This strip is much better than the one Lynn came out with...both written and drawn. Your perspective is much better than Lynn's, and has the two boys front and center, rather than the strange perspective of angled worm's eye Lynn had to get the boys and Connie in it. Not to mention, your Farley is more real than the one Mike was sitting on. That was just a stuffed toy with its eyes closed.

Thanks, Destroyer of Worlds--I'll find myself using the strips as references, and I'll find some part that's so "off" I can hardly tell what she was trying to do, like with body position or perspective. And I'll think, "I can't do it that way--it needs to be fixed." :)
