As She Lay (Imagining She Was) Dying

Sweet Easter!! This parody of Elly is more like the Elly I know than the one we actually see. It's amazing how her default negativity makes even the simplest jobs into soul-crushing and impossible burdens. One wishes she were dying; if John could marry someone sensible and decent now that he knows what to avoid, everyone would be better off.

Too true--at least if he were able to find anyone else to marry him. Though there is that subset who'd be attracted to marrying a dentist, that subset is likely to contain more Elly types. ;)

I wish that weren't the case; he'd probably get stuck with another histrionic paranoiac with a martyrdom complex.

Have you ever submitted your work to a newspaper for consideration? If I had your talent, I would do it- and say straight out that it's a parody of "For Better or For Worse." I'd go back to the present and pick up the storyline right where Lynn left off, change the character names ever so slightly, and have them constantly be slapped down for their arrogance and selfishness. It would be great.

I guess that's one more way John/Elly and Anthony/Liz were such clones, dreadedcandiru2--couples where the partners really deserve one another.

jjamele, I haven't tried anything like that, but thanks for the idea and the encouragement. I may look into it... :)

How strange...your parody-Elly is more interesting than rerun-Elly or original-Elly. She actually has an hobby for one! I still have to wince at how she only sees how badly things need cleaning instead of the memories these rooms bring up.

LJ did have Elly say, in her weekly "letter" at the Coffee Talk page, that she missed her creative-writing class to care for Mike--so I figured I could have her at least thinking about an assignment. :)

It seemed a natural that Elly's brain would go right to whatever cleaning shortfalls of each room she thinks about.

Like Ellie! And Micheal! The KAN won't know where to look!

"Lynne, why are you're character's remembering the future?!!!"

::snerk::

"Dear Lynne, sometimes when I read yore column, the characters are in the olden days, and sometimes they are in the now. That's OK, though, I am sure you no what your doing!"
