Whenever I need to draw Anne, I find myself staring in disbelief at the reference strips I'm using--that hair, that face--the floating heads and partially drawn features. Poor Anne.
One moment, the foobs were in a teal-and-lavender monstrosity of a wedding, and the next they were propelled back into the past. But it was a different version of the past. What happened?

Holy crap!! It's an intervention!!
Holier crap!! Elly just realized that other people remember what happened!!
I can't want till Friday!
I'm not sure what it was about Lynn Johnston drawing Anne that made her so indeterminant. Even Anne’s last appearances in the modern strip at Elizabeth’s wedding and giving the prime rib of stroking or at Mike’s book-signing are so different that you wouldn’t know it was the same woman without someone saying her name.
howard,
I always chalked that up to Lynn's ambivalence towards the character; since she can never decide how she feels about Annie, she never decide on her look. Remeber how Mira devolved after she became the Pattersons' collective antagonist? Same deal.
Mira certainly looked a lot different than Deanna's first mom, Eva.
howard,
I'll say she did; I'd also bet that Andrea looked different from Deanna's original older sister Kaitlin.
howtheduck, interestingly, in her first, unnamed appearances, Mrs. Sobinski looked more like her later character design than like the Eva we saw in those dinner strips.

Thanks--I'm pretty excited about the sequence. :)

Sometimes I feel as though she was the same way about Anne's personality. Anne was the one who truly relished parenthood, and yet there's a strip that will be reprinted fairly soon, in which Elly says she is tempted to get a "look younger" cream, and Anne says she is not because her "look younger" remedy is to leave the kids with Grandma. This seems like a much more "Elly" sentiment.
"Back away from the can openers"...snerk! Priceless!
Obviously the named "Eva" in the Strip with dinner at the Sobinskis' was not Deanna's mom, then. Maybe it was Wilf's sister?
And: Someone said "Pass the spuds"!! -_- Yes, "spuds".
Ha! Now that's a proper gobsmack~ So nice and straightforward...and it caught Elly so completely unawares! Can't wait to see what happens next!

It's almost like the practice in soap operas where they have a substitute actor. "The role of [x] will be played by [y] today." ;)

Hate that! I was looking for something in the July of 2008 strips, and noticed that when Elly visits with Jim (daddysitting while Iris is away), Elly tells Jim that she brought his favorite grub. Bleah. Yes, Lynn, we get it. Elly puts on her new duds and has some spuds, her favorite grub. ::rolleyes::

And your wait is over for the next little bit--but then a new wait for Monday's strip. :)
