Re-thinking the old thoughts

This strip is meant to pick up  from the "Mith Campbell! Michael Patterthon's bothering me" strip that originally came right after the "egg breath" strip.  I realize that this makes it highly likely that Lynn will insert some new-runs in between.

Edit:  Yay, I'm actually in sync with the reprints.

Well, this is a twist.....you're parodying the actual strip. As for Mike's dilemma, he probably won't get used to the effects of Elly's spell. (Not that I expect him to have to endure it for much longer.)

The lines before this point would be Deanna saying, "Michael. I don't like this leaning on me. You're too heavy. I didn't like it when we were married, and I didn't like when we were little, and wow...that's so confusing."

Heh--I guess Lynn is slipping. ;)

Yes, at least the end is in sight.... Sometime this spring. We hope!

Ooh, I like that better.... Now I wish I'd done that strip. :)

All I can think of is loaning Mike a copy of Restaurant at the End of the Universe for this section:
"The major problem [of time travel] is simply one of grammar, and the main work to consult in this matter is Dr. Dan Streetmentioner's Time Traveler's Handbook of 1001 Tense Formations. It will tell you, for instance, how to describe something that was about to happen to you in the past before you avoided it by time-jumping forward two days in order to avoid it. The event will be descibed differently according to whether you are talking about it from the standpoint of your own natural time, from a time in the further future, or a time in the further past and is futher complicated by the possibility of conducting conversations while you are actually traveling from one time to another with the intention of becoming your own mother or father.

"Most readers get as far as the Future Semiconditionally Modified Subinverted Plagal Past Subjunctive Intentional before giving up; and in fact in later aditions of the book all pages beyond this point have been left blank to save on printing costs.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy skips lightly over this tangle of academic abstraction, pausing only to note that the term 'Future Perfect' has been abandoned since it was discovered not to be."

Something tells me all this would be lost on Lynn, though.

forworse: Douglas Adams for the win! Love the line about the "future perfect." :)

Love the line about the "future perfect."

It's especially apt when you consider where Mike and Deanna are headed. What a shame her lisp was evident only in this one strip out of 30 years' worth of comics. Just imagine the possibilities:
- The car accident: "I fell athleep."
- The engagement: "Michael, I thaid yeth!"
- The conception: "I wath waiting for it to get out of my thythtem!"
- The apartment fire: "You ran into a burning building to rethcue Thtone Theathon? God, what an aththhole!"

Heh. Yeah, it's odd that Lynn had that lisp ingrained in her head even though she didn't continue to make a lisp evident in Deanna's speech. (Er, Deanna'th thpeetch.) ;)

"Hello. My name is Deanna Thobinthski Patterthon. Pleathed to meet you."

Mike: "I'd like to name her Meredith..."
Deanna: "Meredith. That'th nithe."
Mike: "...because I thought it was something you could pronounce."

LOL. And wacky hijinx would ensue as Deanna fills out the birth certificate "Merediss Anne Patterson." ;)
