Connie and Anne discuss Elly again

Ugh. So my mobo died and I had to replace my computer. I'm now running a shiny new laptop w/Windows 7, but now I've got Gimp instead of PaintShop Pro, so I've got some getting used to.... that's why the text size is a lil off....

Edit: Oops... I only just realized I used the wrong font for this. That's something I can't blame on Gimp--I do have the foob font installed.

Ah, yes; you were talking about that the other day with trumanf; that is a bummer. As for Annie, she's spot-on about what Elly will do.

Sure as the sun rises in the morning, one knows that Elly will find the path of most annoyance. :)

That's true; by the way, nice Snoopy reference.

Thanks--I liked the idea of Lawrence quietly entertaining Christopher in the background. :)

I love Lawrence and Christopher playing together. I honestly cannot remember a time when those 2 characters were ever together in the same strip. You would think, as interested as Annie was in what was going on in Connie's life, we would have seen it at some point. Of course, when you get right down to it, I am having a hard time remembering any of these strips with Connie and Annie in the same strip, even with Elly there (aside from the one during Elizabeth's wedding).

The only other instance I can think of was when Connie threw herself a 50th-birthday party which she transformed into a co-birthday party with Elly (who'd quietly turned 50 the year before). It was during this party that Elly decided to tell Anne that she'd distanced herself from Anne because of Steve's cheating ways.

Actually that was the next year (2003) at lunch. I went through the AMU reprints appearances of Anne Nichols and there are no other appearances with Anne and Connie together.

howtheduck, behold Elly, Anne, and Connie in the same frame during the surprise-party sequence:

March 1, 2002

March 2, 2002 (Connie and Anne actually speak to each other! Directly! 0_o)

March 4, 2002 (Anne complains to Elly and Connie about post-retirement Steve.)

March 5 brings more Steve-bashing to Elly and Connie.

March 6 has Connie dreading Greg's retirement.

March 7 Anne warns Elly to keep Lilliput's so she can escape when John retires; John and Greg watch from a distance and John declares them engaged in "girl talk."

March 9 John, Elly, and Anne all prepare to depart the party. Anne laments that it takes an occasion such as this for them all to get together.

But you're right--I'd somehow conflated that later lunch-time conversation between Elly and Anne and the birthday party.

D'oh! And only now do I realize that by "no other appearances with Anne and Connie together," you meant "other than at that party." Never mind. ::shuffles along::

I especially like the March 9 strip. Anne talks about being in the same boat as far as age goes. John puts his arm around Elly and Connie and makes a joke about plugging the leaks. Both Elly and Anne laugh at his joke.

But Connie, leans into John and looks in his eyes. Suddenly all our jokes about a relationship between John and Connie leap into my mind, and I wonder if "plug the leaks" has to do with keeping secrets.

Wow, that strip with Elly and Anne makes me furious, for some reason. I just can't see Anne spilling her guts to the now long-distant, disapproving Elly.

Heh--that does resemble a meaningful look from Connie. :)

She really comes off as a judgmental bitch. I agree--Anne being inspired to bare her soul under the circumstances seems unlikely.
