I love jazz! I grew up with it. So it really bugs me when Elly and Lynn show their usual disrespect for it. (For a prime example, go to the "strip catalog" part of the foob site and enter "discordant" as your keyword search.) So I wanted to show some respect and imagine that Phil and his band would be playing this:Notice how Miles Davis makes no "tattica" sounds with his trumpet. ;)

Of course jazz sounds discordant to her; she loves bland pop which soothes, dulls and narcotizes the senses.
What an awesome recording of Miles Davis. :D Thanks for sharing it!
I bet Phil had a much nicer New Year than Elly.

With Elly's lousy taste, I suppose her disapproval is an unintended compliment. I get some lulz from the description for the strip I refer to in my entry:
Phil plays some jazz that he wrote with Georgia on flute for Elly. Elly calls it discordant random noise and misses the point of jazz music.
Oh, and the charming punchline: "Don't Worry, Phil - With Practice You Could Write Stuff We Can All Sing Along To!"
Right, like the crap you like to sing along to in the car with your Daddy. ::rolleyes::

Sure--I'm glad you liked it. :)

No doubt about it.

The neat thing is that the general public does NOT share Elly's taste in music.
The one I remember about Elly's taste in music is Bobby Curtola.
::snerk::
dc2, it figures that's the kind of music that makes her smile like a loon.
More craptacular car singing from Elly (accompanied by Jim).
I don't listen to a lot of jazz (Chicago excepted,) but I'm big into progressive rock, which owes as much to jazz as it does to classical, so I'm right there with you. Of course, that's hardly the only genre Lynn has slammed on for not being whatever Pat Boone/101 Strings turdwash she listens to. I'm not sure what the hell April's band was supposed to be, but they didn't get treated much better - except when she was using them as part of the "this is totally a plea for acceptance of special-needs kids and not a grab for some of the attention I got when I had a gay character" storyline, of course.

She was imagining her award-acceptance speech as she planned that latter storyline, I expect. ;)

I remember that one, as well. Initially, I didn't know who Bobby Curtola was and assumed he was supposed to be a boy that Elly knew as a teenager.
I love that music :)
My verification word is "redrocka". It sounds like a name for a rock musician.
I love that music
Cool. :)
That was fantastic; thanks for posting it.
Elly is such a fool. I've played trombone for 21 years now and I bet that to her I've wasted all that time!

You're welcome. Glad you enjoyed it. :)

And she'd add insult to injury by insisting that you playing discordant noise.
