Lead-in to Lizzie's bathroom disaster

Over at Foobiverse, there was some discussion about how Elly managed not to hear Liz wreaking havoc in the bathroom--leading to the scene revealed in today's foob reprint.  This, I figured, is a likely explanation.  I know it's a bit of a retread of the reprint that appeared on April 9, 2009, but Elly is all about repetition and not-learning.

Good grief!! Elly is so stupid and self-centered, it hurts to look at her. Everything in the world is all about what she wants and how she feels.

It just figures that Elly would like Luke and Laura.

I guess Liz is five this week. Five, yet ABLE TO FIT INSIDE A TOILET BOWL.

What is with Lynn's obsession with making children far, far smaller than they actually are at certain ages?

(With the exception of Francie, who was the largest, most verbally articulate 2-3 year old I've ever seen!)

I remember Luke and Laura. I was in university at the time and I remember having a class which the teacher stopped early so the students (well, the female students actually) could see Luke and Laura's wedding.

Luke and Laura...yick! Talk about a rape fantasy!

Makes total sense that this would be what Elly is doing while Lizzie is playing in the bathroom, though, and kudos for fitting in the continuity of an strip that didn't have any continuity to begin with!

That's Elly, in a nutshell.

I thought it seemed about right. ;)

Luke and Laura? I'm not sure I'd specifically call it a rape fantasy...more an idea that spun WAAAY out of control. Although yeah, it did start off as a rape.

I'm betting Elly she was probably watching the "ice princess" plot. That story did so much to ruin soaps, as suddenly character continuity no longer existed while stories went wilder and wilder, all in an attempt to catch the fire that Luke and Laura caught.

Interesting note: I remember reading an interview with Anthony Geary a few years ago in ABC Soaps (a magazine sold at the checkout lines). In it he said that the Luke and Laura storylines did indeed start with a rape, and that some of the stuff his character was going through (trouble with his son, based on the rape) was part of dealing with and correcting the past. Especially since "Laura" wasn't there...seems her part was to always smooth things out (and something Anthony, the actor, was actually glad for).

Though curiously, Lynn had Lizzie turn two about four months after today's reprint ran, making her 20 months old.

She generally seems uninterested in making the kids match their supposed ages.

A friend of mine in high school got me to watch GH, but this wasn't until soon after Laura disappeared. So I missed that heyday, but Demi Moore and Janine Turner were on as sisters.

I actually tried to find a GH timeline for 1981, to figure out which arcs Elly would have been following in January. But I could only find references to the Luke and Laura wedding being in November of that year.

BTW, the strip where Mike buys a present for Liz's second birthday was left out of the second collection, as was this one. There is another omitted strip between this one and the "party" strip I linked, which does a appear in the collection.
