About that sitter...

Okay, so I am jumping back a bit in my time sequence for this one.  Chronologically, this comes before the NYE strip I ran on Friday, 1/1/10.

Ah, good; it's always nice to see April. I hope that her visit is a productive one.

I had wondered about the choice for a sitter. Considering Elly took care of Lawrence while Connie went to Montreal, you would think Elly would be the natural choice. However, since new-run Elly sits in disapproval of what Phil and Connie are doing, she cannot be the sitter. It makes me wonder if we are going to get a new-run strip in the midst of the Montreal strips to explain why Elly turned from disapprover to enabler.

Nevertheless, for FOOBAR purposes, Lynn's writing inconsistency provides yet another FOOBAR opportunity. After all that is why FOOBAR exists, isn't it?

Lynn wants to use her reruns, but she also wants to work out her anger towards rotten, stinkin', evil MEN.

Even the most devoted fans have begun to notice and remark with distress upon the constant John-bashing. Phil is being used as a substitute, with the flimsy excuse that he was a mildly prominent character in the old strips.

Of course, now all those strips where Phil gets drunk and miserable about his "old flame" when Connie and Georgia meet will make even less sense than they did previously.

Me, too. :)

Same here. I guess it will depend on how badly she wants the less work/more vacation option. ;)

Yes! Thanks, Lynn. :D

Quite so. Keep bringing the crazy inconsistencies!

I wonder if Lynn realizes this and if so, whether she cares.

Yup.

I suspect Alan ignores the strip as much as he can, though if he stumbles across it, I wonder how much of a "WTF" reaction he'd have.

Lynn: Only Picky-faces care about "sense"! ;)

I am going to assume she wants the vacation option. She only did 3 reprints in December and 6 reprints in November, compared to 19 reprints in October. As I calculate it, that would allow her to mentally compensate for what could 3/4 of January, all of February, and 1/2 of March being reprints for the dailies. She has already reprinted the last 2 weeks of March, 1981; so those would need to be new-runs.

Lynn has already reprinted the 1981 strips through January 8. Since we know that tomorrow's strip for January 5 was originally published on January 9, 1981, we could well be at the point where she is trying to synchronize the reprints. We are one day off in 2010 and 1981. Monday was January 5 that year and January 9, 1981 would have been Friday. I think Lynn needs 3 more new-run dailies to line them up. Whether or not Lynn realizes this, is yet to be seen.

Ah, yes--Anne admiring Elly's kitchen and Elly offering to make a gourmet meal for John, only to have him rebuff her in favo[u]r of familiar foods.

Lynn: Math is hard! ;)

Phew...Lawrence doesn't have to worry about being away from his toilet if he has a sitter stay at his place. And since it's April, perhaps he'll be able to explain why he had to appropriate Richard's storyline several years before it happened.

For your purposes of FOOBAR, trying to figure out Lynn's plans for the end may be directly related. If she goes as I predict, then we may have 3 more daily new-runs in January, 2 weeks of new-runs in March to close out the new-runs, and virtually every Sunday strip between now and the end of March will be new-runs, since Lynn has already reprinted all the 1981 Sunday strips to the end of March, except for the one on Valentine's Day weekend. By my calculations that means 11 Sundays, 3 January new-runs to synchronize it and 12 March new-runs to end. That's not a lot of new material left to go. As to what Lynn is going to do with the 8 Sundays she already reprinted from April to July, 1981, I don't know. She could very well pull in Sunday strips from 1980 she has not reprinted to fill those spots.

Likely explanations could be "Elly has a poor memory and forgot whose story arc this was" and "Elly was impatient and wanted to find a way to do this story earlier." ;)

I suspect your predictions are very likely. I wish I knew for sure, but what can you do?

Hm. I will have to take a look at More Than a Week of Sundays and see what she has skipped.

As near as I can tell from looking at the Sundays reprinted in the last 2 1/2 years, the number of Sunday strips reprinted from 1979 to 1980 are shockingly few. Lynn should have plenty to choose from.

You're correct--it looks as though she'd have more than enough. She might even be able to leave out [some of] the parental abuse and neglect. We'll have to see whether she slips in some infant-Liz strips. Probably.
