That would be funnier if it weren't true; it seems to me that this was pretty much exactly how things rolled back in 1979. Like Rod, John is disturbed by the realization that his wife sees their marriage in such negative terms, can't get her to see his side and gets screamed at because he points out how warped her perspective on life is.
Oh my goodness. You are really hitting on all levels with this one. Fantastic.
You have the "Just a comic strip" quote from the Coffee Talk writer, you indirectly tag in the "magic is gone" strip with Elly's "You don't love me", the denial by Lynn that the strip represents her real family, and of course John Patterson represents us snarkers responding to the Coffee Talk writer with his line, "I will if you show me something funny." Moreover, I can easily see the conversation being very similar to one Rod and Lynn would have had back in 1979, the first time he was horrified to see what Lynn was putting into her strips.
