Edit: Huh. I didn't expect today's foob strip to actually show Phil's end of the conversation. It figures Lynn had him sitting down and using a cordless (!) phone. At least I got his wardrobe right.

So, that's why he bought Mike the give-his-poor-afflicted-mother-a-headache drum kit! I thought he didn't twig to Elly's hatred of childhood. To get back at her for sending the Psycho Hose Beast his way makes him a bit of a bastard. A Magnificent Bastard, to be specific.
I think it can be both reasons--a tasty blend of disagreeing with the childhood-hatred and revenge. :)
That makes it even better. It's time someone had the decency to punish Elly for her nasty behavior.
