Your bling is far out, dawg, and totally heavy, man!

In the rerun strip that I expect us to see (barring new-run insertions) this coming Saturday, 1/3/2009, Phil returns from taking Connie to her staff New Year's Eve party. The clothes I have Phil wearing here are (pretty much) what you'll see him wearing there. It amused me to imagine him wearing this casual attire while Connie's all gussied up for her work party.

To construct this strip, I consulted the second FBoFW collection--Is This "One of Those Days," Daddy?--and also the results of a Google image search on "ballroom dancing." Stitching together those two yielded the awkward results you see above. Also, I've decided that I hate drawing Connie's bad hair and owl glasses. I'm also half convinced that LJ wanted Elly's best friend to resemble Mrs. Beasley.

Update: LJ has removed a strip from the original sequence, so Phil returning from his date with Connie should appear this coming Friday, 1/2/09. Or there could be more omitting/insertion. Wow, this is almost like suspense. ;)

The Courtship of Lawrence's Mother

Okay, so this is out of sync with what's running in the strip right now, because of the new-run filler that LJ inserted this past Saturday. I was expecting Saturday's strip to be the repeat where Phil and Mike are on there way over to Connie's place and today's to be the one where Phil briefs Elly on what he and Connie spoke about. The odd dialogue in my strip for today is based on that summary.

For Christmas, Lawrence gets to be mortified...

In case you are wondering about the sporadic application of bricks, this is another homage to LJ. I don't want to put in a direct link, but if you are curious about what I'm talking about, you can see an example by checking the March 7, 2006 strip at the foob-site archives.

Since when is Farley a Cujo?

A click will make big.

Original-flavor Farley was a sweet, dumb doggie. He didn't attack babies and chew on their diapers. So what gives with new-run Farley-the-puppy?

What is she up to?

There's some wildly inconsistent drawing going on here, but I'm telling myself it's my homage to LJ.

Note: I am one of those oh-so-lucky people to be without power due to the ice storm that hit this Thursday night/Friday. I'd pre-posted this past Friday's and today's strips, but until power is restored [the estimate keeps changing], I won't be able to scan my strips to post them. I'm hoping it'll be back in time to stick to my posting schedule, but I can't guarantee.

Update: Power is back on, as of this afternoon! Yay! I should be able to post on schedule. :)

You would cry too, if it happened to you

Oh, look, on the cover of Bad Parenting magazine, it's new-run Elly Patterson!

His work was done....

Poor Farley. This has to be worse than being Buffy in season six.

I'm planning to do my next posting on Monday, 12/8/2008, and then start doing Monday/Wednesday/Friday postings, at least for a while. Daily's just not sustainable for me at the moment!

Did you know that Farley is a DOG?

Clicks for to make big.

Scary kid, eh?

I'm not sure how it happened, but I think Michael in panel two was on his way to morphing into a young Funky Winkerbean. I'm not sure if that's better or worse than growing up to be the Delicate Genius so many of us have come to know and loathe. ;)

That Rain Gear Must Weigh 5 KG!

One moment, Elly was on the phone with Marian telling her that Liz had just started walking that day, and the next, she's trudging around in this rain gear like it's nothing....

Timefulness

As if the ridiculous hat weren't enough, Lizzie has the revised past to fret about.
